The Global Success of Besa Continues: A New Adaptation in Asia

The popular series Besa is set to receive a new adapted version for Southeast Asian markets, reaching an audience of more than 700 million viewers. Three major Asian media players – production companies Double Vision and Astro, both from Malaysia, and leading Philippine media company ABS-CBN – will jointly produce the adaptation, with the support and collaboration of Adrenalin Production.

Besa has won over audiences in Serbia and across the region and has also achieved notable success in other markets. Among other things, it has aired in the United States via the Walter Presents platform. Prior to the Malaysian–Philippine version, the series had already been adapted for Arab audiences by MBC and shown on Shahid. Besa is a gripping, intense, and emotional crime drama based on an original idea by Srđan Šaper, created by award-winning British screenwriter Tony Jordan (Hustle, Life on Mars), and originally produced as a co-production between Serbia’s Adrenalin Production and PRVA TV, the UK’s Red Planet Pictures, Slovenia’s Planet TV, and Croatia’s RTL Television.

The Malaysian–Philippine version is an adaptation of the first season and follows the story of Gabriel Diaz, a Filipino man who is drawn into the secret underworld of the mafia and forced to kill in order to atone for the accidental death of the daughter of a Malaysian gang leader.

The creator of the original concept of Besa, Srđan Šaper, stated:

“Since the story of Besa unfolds across international borders, this is a format that is ideal for this kind of co-production. We are delighted by the Malaysian–Philippine adaptation and by the dedication all three companies are showing to make Besa a hit in the Far East as well.”

The Asian version of Besa, produced with the support and collaboration of Adrenalin Production, will first be made available to viewers in Malaysia and the Philippines, with a combined population of more than 150 million, as well as to audiences in other Southeast Asian countries, which together account for over 700 million people.
